Sarah White
Using a stripped-down, non-glossy approach to her music making, singer-songwriter Sarah White has released a string of highly personal and heartfelt albums since the late nineties.
Originally hailing from Charlottesville, Virginia, White immersed herself into the music scene around there, performing a rich blend of country, folk and blues. Since 1997, she has been releasing music professionally. Her earlier albums, All My Skies Are Blue and 2000’s Bluebird garnered White quick praise for her earnest songwriting, earning comparisons to artists like Cat Power and Edith Frost.
By 2006, White had released White Light with her band, the Pearls, furthering White’s following, including the likes of famous musicans like Dave Matthews.
Sweetheart
What you need to know
It’s me that will keep us apart
Because my heart doesn’t really want to know
All that pain you hold in your heart
~ Sarah White
White’s latest is a five-song EP entitled Sweetheart, whose song of the same name won the artist ‘Best Song’ for the Mountain Stage New Song Contest last year. That song, along with the rest of the collection here further illustrates White’s strengths as a storyteller. Her songs are poignant and melancholy and her voice is magnetic and beautifully rough in all the right places.
