Kristy Hanson
Find any songwriter and ask them why they write and they’ll undoubtedly say it’s something that’s in their blood; something as automatic as drawing breath. But to be a songwriter and to pursue it as your career is probably one of the most challenging professions out there. It’s not enough to simply write your songs. One has to promote their music. Perform on stage. Raise funds for album releases. Essentially, earning a living as a songwriter is so much more than writing a song.
In the case of Kristy Hanson, she seems ready for the challenge.
The Los Angeles-based songwriter released her latest album, Already Gone last year and has been on a trek of heavy promotion ever since, performing shows across the nation and appearing on radio shows in both Los Angeles and in her home state of Michigan.
Possessing a clear folk-rock sound, Hanson’s songs are engaging, precise and melodic. Her voice and message carry well through her songs and she’s received tremendous praise from critics.
Hanson is also fortunate to have been able to amass such an incredible pool of talented musicians for Already Gone, including keyboardist Patrick Warren and drummer extraordinaire, Jay Bellerose – both men who have worked with artists ranging from Fiona Apple, Paula Cole and Sam Phillips.
Highlights from Already Gone include the bluesy bass strumming found on “It’s Not Over,” the soft and emotive delivery of “Packed My Bags” and the foot-tapping percussion and acoustics found in “Who Can Say?”
Woke up today with a big smile on my face
You can’t be homesick if you never feel at home
Woke up today, it was a day like any day
You can’t be lonely if you like to be alone
~ Kristy Hanson
As promotion for Already Gone continues, Hanson is now gearing up for an upcoming appearance at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on Dec. 15. Those in the L.A. area should definitely attempt to see this remarkable songwriter and reward her for what is no doubt a job well done.
