Night Writers

Since 2002, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals have built a reputation for captivating audiences with their high-energy performances and solid rock songs. After self-releasing their first two highly revered albums (Original Soul and Nothing But The Water), Potter and the band signed with Hollywood Records for the release of their third album, This Is Somewhere.

Originally from Vermont, Potter was discovered by drummer Matt Burr during an open-mic performance in 2002. Eventually, the pair began writing songs together and formed a band including guitarist Scott Tournet and later, bassist Bryan Dondero (who replaced original bass player, Courtright Beard) and began calling themselves the Nocturnals, a name derived from their late-night songwriting sessions.

Their music is unmistakable rock with Potter’s voice the integral ingredient in every track. Only in her mid-20’s, Potter is already penning songs of high caliber and can wield the bluesy, southern rock sound with uncanny ease.

Highlights include ‘Here’s To The Meantime,’ an electric, chorus-heavy rock-n-roll number and the album’s closer, ‘Big White Gate,’ a stunning track depicting the regrets and ruminations of a dying woman with a colorful past.

‘If I Was From Paris’, a bonus track, can be found on the iTunes version of This Is Somewhere.

I sang to my children before they strayed so far
I sang for my lover for a nickel in a tip jar
I never knew Jesus
I never read the Good Book
But on my day of dying, I’m givin’ life a second look

Thanks a lot for posting BIG WHITE GATE by Grace Potter. I gave it a translation into german and aired it last november for “Sunday of the deads”. (How do you call this sunday?) … Made a good impression to my radio friends! It’s a beautiful song, really.
