Sara Hickman
A professional songwriter since the age of 14, Sara Hickman has been creating a remarkable assortment of music, ranging in themes and styles, building a catalogue many would find envious.
An artist in the truest sense, Hickman is a songwriter, a painter, a public speaker, a writer, a teacher, and a wife and mother (among other things), and she wears these titles frequently, tirelessly making efforts to bring her music and her passion to the world.
On her latest album, the double-disc, aptly titled Motherlode, Hickman has created a very strong collection of songs separated into two themes: the first relating to the sorrow and despair of womankind while the second is dedicated to its wonders and joys.
With Motherlode, Hickman allows her listeners, both new and old, to choose the journey they’d like to experience.
Womenfolk is proud to introduce the sixteenth in its This Woman’s Work series with the inclusion of Sara Hickman.
NOTE: It came to my attention that the song files for Ms. Hickman were broken. They have since been corrected. - Robbie

The tune of “Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again?” sounds an awful lot like “Ring of Fire”…
Robbie, i’ve enjoyed Sarah Hickman’s sound immensely, but i’ve a question. Although her name was unknown to me until Womenfolk’s welcome introduction, i could swear i’ve heard “Mad World” someplace fairly recently, possibly on the background of a tv show - would you know? If not, it certainly sounds exactly like one of those hauntingly beautiful songs one might hear on the likes of “Saved”.
Anne: You’ve probably heard ‘Mad World’ before, yes. It was originally written by Roland Orzabal, a member of the 80’s group, Tears For Fears. The song has since been covered by many artists including punk outfit Evergreen Terrace, the Wise Guys, Gary Jules, and of course, Ms. Hickman.
“Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again?” is also a cover, originally written and performed by Amy Rigby.
Glad you enjoyed the music.
