Within These Walls

Of all the artists featured on Womenfolk, Shawn Colvin is perhaps the most widely recognized. Since the late 80’s, she has received multiple Grammy nominations (including three wins), collaborated with some of the best known names in the biz, and has released an envious catalogue of honest, captivating music. She has grown to become one of music’s most beloved songwriters, receiving countless accolades and praise at every turn.

On her latest release, These Four Walls, her first album of new material since 2001’s Whole New You, Colvin re-teams with her longtime songwriting partner, John Leventhal, and creates another fine album of folk-ish pop and rich storytelling.

Guests on the album include Marc Cohn and Patty Griffin on ‘Cinnamon Road’ and Teddy Thompson contributing vocals on ‘Let It Slide.’

So you take all the things that you felt then
And never did show
With a picture in your head of somebody
That you never did know
Put them all in a box and leave them down
Cinnamon Road
But all the money in the world
Is never gonna let you go

Shawn Colvin

The music found on These Four Walls fits seamlessly with Colvin’s previous body of work. Her unmistakable voice is in prime form and she seems comfortable with these new batch of songs. There’s no flashy instrumentation or huge change in production. No unexpected change in focus or direction; just honest, memorable, affecting, songwriting. It’s what Colvin does best and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Shawn Colvin is currently touring in support of These Four Walls and will be embarking on a European tour on November 19 beginning in Paris, France.

To celebrate Shawn Colvin’s latest album, Womenfolk will be giving away four copies of These Four Walls. Click here for more information.

You should check out Shawn’s opening act on her tour, Brandi Carlile. Seeing her as an opening act is like seeing Dimagio playing little league.

These are beautiful. I am one of the many who only have Shawn’s “A Few Small Repairs”, so it’s good to hear some other material.

I would love to send you a copy of my cd in the hope you might consider reviewing it and sharing my music with others. Your site came to my attention while looking up more info on Shawn Colvin, whom I absolutely adore. Actually, she will be performing here in Buffalo on Tues. Jan. 23rd and I will be opening the show for her. It would be wonderful to hear from you and get an address to mail out a kit to you. Thanks, Noa
